A foreigner who has had a long-term residence permit in Spain and who has also been absent from the European Union for 12 consecutive months, or who has obtained long-term EU residence in another European Union Member State, or who has completed the non-return commitment period by accepting voluntary return to their country of origin, may recover their long-term residence permit.
A foreigner who has had a long-term EU residence permit in Spain and who has also been absent from the European Union for 12 consecutive months, or who has obtained a long-term EU residence permit in another European Union Member State, or who has been outside Spain for more than 6 years, can recover their long-term EU residence permit.
To obtain a visa to recover a long-term residence permit or a long-term EU visa, you must first process an application for recovery of the permit. Therefore, the procedure consists of two phases.

Please provide one recent photograph (not more than 3 months old) of yourself, which should not have been used
previously in the passport. The photograph should be in colour and:
- Taken against a white background so that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background.
- Clear share quality and with the face in focus.
- Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print).
- Full face, non-smiling [without sunglasses, a hat/cap or other head covering, unless the applicant wears such
items because of their religious belief or ethnic background]
- Please stick the Photograph on the Visa Application Form.
